Mental Health Support Worker - Taith Cartref (SA6)

JOB ROLE: Support Worker

LOCATION: Taith Cartref, Clydach (SA6)

SALARY: £13.20 - £13.90* per hour

SHIFT PATTERNS: 08:15-21:00PM & 20:45-08:30AM.

 

Due to continued growth, we are urgently seeking full time (35 & 46.5 hours per week)  Care Assistants/Support Workers to join our team in Clydach, Swansea.

About Taith Cartref

Taith Cartref is a 13 bedded home, on Gellionen Mountain in Clydach, Swansea. Famed for the Nickle works, we reside in the mansion house that was home to the owner of the works! There are 9 ensuite bedrooms and 4 flats with large grounds and patio area. We support individuals with a primary diagnosis of Mental health and complex needs such as schizophrenia, bipolar and depression. These individuals may also have other diagnosis such as autism, learning disabilities and substance misuse.

We have a team of highly trained staff that are available to provide support 24 hours per day. The service and aims to promote independence at every opportunity.

The home is within walking distance of Clydach village where there are public transport links to Swansea City Centre, Neath, or Llanelli. We are situated only a few minutes from the M4 which means we are less than 40 minutes away from Cardiff, Carmarthen, or Brecon. The Clydach canal runs through the village and is a popular walk/cycle path and Aberdulais Fails and Dan yr Ogof caves are only 5 minutes away.

In January 2023, Taith Cartref were shortlisted and achieved highly recommended for several categories – including Best Care Team - at the Great British Care Awards! This is something we are very proud of, as these are independent awards and reflects all the hard work we put in!

 

Training:

Experience within the care sector is not essential as we offer full training, however what you do need is the enthusiasm and commitment to live our company values every day to ensure we move mountains to support people to live happy and healthy lives.

Initially you will be placed on a two-day induction that is completed at Taith Cartref. This is then followed by a two week ‘buddy’ system, where you will be allocated a dedicated and experienced staff member to show you the ropes! They will continue to be your support person after the buddy shifts have finished and will provide feedback as you progress. Alongside your mandatory training requirements, we have ‘house specific’ training relevant to the individuals we support. This allows you to have a holistic and person-centred approach.

 

What does a day in the life of a support worker entail?

  • Take responsibility for the physical and emotional wellbeing and social needs of the people we support.
  • Promote their independence and maintain high levels of dignity and respect.
  • Carry out or assist people we support with personal care such as washing, personal hygiene, dressing.
  • Medication Administration
  • Budgeting, shopping, and laundry
  • Preparation of meals and snacks.
  • Maintain accurate records,
  • Support our people we support to access activities and the local community to live a happy, varied and fulfilling life!

  • Previous care experience is preferred but not essential.
